Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade students come from various social economic backgrounds but most of my families have qualified for a reduced rate or free lunch based on their income levels. Instead of eating at home, most of my students eat the breakfast provided by the school district when they come to the classroom. It is a hardship for parents to provide a folder or pair of scissors for their child to use in the classroom.

My students are happy to come to school.

I think it is not only where they come to learn but also where they go to satisfy their social needs. My classroom is full of conversation and students are learning from me as well as from each other.

My Project

I like to reward my students with visually appealing incentive charts and stickers. I teach seven year olds and I find they work harder to complete their tasks and keep check of their behavior when they earn stickers. Most children are competitive and can work to set and meet goals if they receive recognition and some sort of positive enforcement.

I find they are eager to complete their incentive chart to go to my pirate's treasure chest.

There is anticipation to get to the next chart. I am also asking for an electric stapler to make it easier for them to staple their work.
