My Students
There are roughly 400 students in attendance in our magnet school in the inner city school district of New Haven, CT. All of our students qualify for free lunch. Despite the many hardships some are facing, our students come to school ready and eager to learn. Our magnet theme allows students to explore STEM professions through stimulating and challenging programs. The technology lab is a safe place which fosters creativity, communication, and collaboration.
Our students love technology and often times, the technology lab is a place where those students who may struggle academically, excel and participate in hands-on activities.
In addition, it is also a place where gifted students can be challenged to continue to think outside of the box to develop critical thinking skills that will help them to prepare for 21st century life and careers.
My Project
My students love earning rewards for their hard work and positive behaviors. At our school, we have adopted the core values of perseverance, respect, integrity, determination, and excellence (PRIDE). These values are at the core of everything we do here at our school. The PRIDE matrix is our school's PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) plan and it has had a tremendous impact on our students and the school community as a whole.
Having a PBIS system in place aims to improve social, emotional, and academic outcomes for all students.
The pandemic caused a huge shift in the needs of our students and it is always my goal to meet them where they are and provide whatever supports and encouragement I can to help them succeed.
The stickers and prizes that I am requesting will allow me to continue to provide positive reinforcements for students who demonstrate our core values. My students look forward to these rewards and they truly work hard towards earning them each week. With teaching all of the students in the school, it is hard for me to keep my prize bin stocked and ready for the students. These past couple of years have been extremely difficult for all and I want to make sure that I continue to incorporate the positive reinforcements that bring my students joy.
