This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at an amazing Title I school where 85% of our students come from a low socioeconomic status. Most of the families I serve have working parents with little or no education. Comprised of mostly minorities, our school has a spirit of unity that shines through. We are a large family nearing 900 students. The passion for learning is felt when you walk through the doors. I work with children with special needs in grades K through 5th. My students are loving and kind and have real determination. I strive to teach them the skills they need to be active participants in our community.

My Project

These materials such a thermal laminate pouches and ink will help me create token economy systems. I will utilize the fruit snacks and stickers as positive reinforcers with my students with special needs. Children look forward to that positive reinforcement because it makes them feel good, and causes them to want to perform well. When students lack internal motivation, educators such as myself turn to positive reinforcers to assist students complete daily tasks. These materials will make a difference because they already have a purpose. The students will earn stickers on their charts for completing work tasks, when their charts are full they will be able to select a reward!
