Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are excited and prepared to learn every day at school. That excitement can dwindle when math class is only about rote computation problems and obscure word problems. Additionally, our students have a wide range of skills and understandings and need opportunities to share their strengths and develop their areas for improvement.
Our students need to engage in the creativity, flexibility, and play of mathematics.
Our students love to play and learn from each other. That requires that classrooms have access to high quality activities and games that build strong understanding of the mathematics at the heart of each grade level.
My Project
These materials will make difference in the learning of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders because they will bring play, creativity, and flexibility to math class. This supplementary curriculum will provide students with exciting games that they can play over and over again throughout the year - uncovering more complex math ideas each time they play.
Imagine walking into classrooms where students are working in partners and groups excitedly talking about math ideas while strategizing and problem-solving - that is the classroom these materials will create.
The curriculum lessons, games, and dice will provide multiple classrooms with the resources they need to make play a part of their daily routine while learning key math skills!
