Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Can't is a word that isn't allowed in our classroom. Instead we say, "I can't wait!" Learning is fun, hands-on and relevant! I want to extend this attitude about learning to the families of my students through board games. These games will encourage Math, Language Arts, and Problem Solving skills.

I want to set up a monthly homework where students will take home a board game, such as Boggle or Yahtzee and play it with their families.

I will teach the board games to the students as a "Fun Friday" lesson and then the kids will be able to check the games out. Parents will be asked to sign a letter confirming that their child and they played over the weekend for at least an hour. Students will return on Monday and share the results of their learning/gaming experience with the class. This will build social, strategy, and leadership skills, as well as make the families part of the whole learning experience.
