Help me give my students books to help teach positive character traits. Each month our school focuses on a character trait to study. These books will help open the discussion about each trait.

My Project
We would all benefit from being more aware of our characteristics and personality traits. These traits make up who we are as a person. Character traits are qualities that make characters from books, stories, movies, plays, and other art forms come to life for readers. Positive character traits are often misconstrued because of all the things we see on social media.
Each month our school chooses a character trait to focus on.
l have chosen all of these books with specific trait in mind. I have chosen books that will be used to teach all of our traits (Honesty, Respect, Compassion, Empathy, Courage, Responsibility, Self-Control, Cooperation, and Perseverance). These books will be used to read and discuss the trait in small groups. Students are be able to understand the trait when taught by using picture book instead of chapter books. These books will also help my students enjoy reading time. Other activities will also be added to support the lesson. I am hoping this will help my students become more patient and tolerant of their classmates, teammates and family.
I will use the books during a time of day called tutorial. During this time we focus on specific skills with small groups of students. The students will also work on their fluency reading these books to a partner.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. Students on a fifth grade level enjoy being read to as much as kindergarten students. This project will only help enrich my students experiences with the printed word.
Thank you for helping support this positive behavior in children.
