it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) is a framework for creating safe, positive, equitable schools, where every student and teacher feels valued, connected to the school community, and supported by caring adults. By implementing evidence-based practices within a PBIS framework, schools support their students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success, engage with families to create locally meaningful and culturally relevant outcomes, and use data to make informed decisions that improve the way things work for everyone. Implementing PBIS effectively leads to improved student outcomes, reduced exclusionary discipline, and improved teacher outcomes, helping to build better teacher-student relationships. The purchased items will help fund our PBIS student and teacher stores. Students are rewarded with Soar Bucks for meeting the school’s SOARing expectations: Safety, Organization, Achievement, Respect. Teachers are rewarded with Soar Bucks for modeling these expectations for students. Our students work hard academically and behaviorally so it is our goal to provide them with items they can purchase in the school store. Additionally, it is important to stock items that teachers can buy with their Soar Bucks that they can use in their classrooms. Our PBIS committee relies on funds from donors and fundraisers to stock our store. Providing sensory items such as the beanbag, liquid motion bubbler, and stretchy string for the classroom calming corner will help students who have anxiety, trauma, and special education needs. Positive behavior clip charts and cutouts will be used in the classroom to help as reminders for our students to exhibit positive behaviors at school. Our students and teachers are so special and we strive to provide students and teachers with supports that will help them be successful. Despite the adversity many students face, they are the absolute kindest students and work hard to meet academic and behavioral school goals.
