Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports: Learning How to Learn Again!
Help me give my students exciting and motivating incentives. Every high school student is food motivated and will be thrilled to have the opportunity to earn treats and snacks through being a positive member of the school community.

My Students
My students are those in the school most in need of learning and behavioral interventions to help them close those gaps in learning. Through COVID, there has been a major loss of learning that students are now feeling the effect of. These learning struggles, which many students had prior to COVID, have now increased drastically. My students are experiencing not only difficulty in returning to school in the areas of math and English, but are also having a lot of trouble adjusting to the change in social and emotional environments. They are greatly in need of support in learning how to be students again.
My program is focused on positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), a research-based best teaching practice that offers students motivation and incentives for behaving appropriately and positively at school, which helps students relearn how to be an active and contributing members of the classroom community, adhere's to Nevada's Social Emotional Learning (SEL standards), increases student sense of belonging, decreases behavioral issues, and improves student mental well-being at school overall.
My Project
These items will help provide incentives for our students to apply their social-emotional learning skills in their classrooms (aligned with the State of Nevada's SEAD Five SEL Competencies of Self-Awareness 1-4, Self-Management 1-3, Social Awareness 1-3, Relationship Skills 1-2, and Responsible Decision-Making 1-2). Many of these skills have been lost or forgotten during the tumultuous learning experience my students have had during COVID, and there is a need to re-teach and reinforce positive classroom behaviors so that students can "get back in the groove" of being in the classroom and interacting with peers and staff appropriately in-person. These incentives will help us do exactly that. PBIS is a research-based, best teaching practice that helps reward students for exhibiting positive SEL-based standards of behaviors through incentives, thereby increasing the frequency with which students use these appropriate behaviors and building student competency and comfort in using these behaviors.
In addition, these resources will help promote NVACS for Health (7.SM.HS.1 and 7.SM.HS.2) as they will reinforce students for demonstrating behaviors that improve the mental health of self and others and reduce mental health risks to self and others and Health standards (4.IC.HS.1 and 4.IC.HS.2) as it will reinforce students for positive and effective communication and collaboration and build skills in all of these areas.
