Our middle school is one of the most diverse in the district - with the percentage of non-white students at over 95%. At our school, more than three‑quarters of students come from low‑income households and one-fifth are English Language Learners.
Our young scientists are friendly, energetic, and curious.
They seek out opportunities to work with their peers to investigate scientific phenomena. My students are ready with questions and bright new ideas; sometimes they need encouragement to share and stay on-task.
My Project
Students earn paper "cash" for being on time, on task, helpful, supportive, and collaborative. Every Friday in our science classroom students can visit our student-run store to buy snacks and treats with the "cash" they have saved up.
Many students still come to school hungry, especially if they are running late.
In addition to our school providing free and reduced price meals, these classroom snacks give students the encouragement and boost they need to make it through the school day.
Having wonderful snacks in our store will help encourage students to be on task and participate in our science learning.
