This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are highly ambitious and talented. Every year I have students that aspire to go to a high school that specializes in the visual arts. These schools require students to complete a portfolio and they recommend that their work be submitted in a display book. I really want my students to have the best chance to obtain these opportunities.I can see in their faces how much they appreciate it when I provide them with portfolio books. I validate their efforts and in a small way let them know that they are loved and valued by this gesture. My students are filled with so many ideas. I know that I learn best when my hands are busy my mind is clear and able to absorb information better.
I believe that in this digital world it is essential that my students have the time and space to work with a physical pen and paper.
I really would like my students to have some time away from their devices and create something physical and tangible.
Students will be able to journal and create art that will help them understand their emotions, relieve stress, and create positive and uplifting artistic pieces that are needed during these uncertain times. Being able to write eloquently and legibly is a life skill for these students to take with them throughout their academic careers. I also think that journaling can help them make sense of a nonsensical world by having time to really reflect on things. They can vent their feelings and frustrations on the page.
