Hello, I am a third grade teacher at a wonderful Elementary school in Durham, North Carolina. I have a great group of children who love to read. I want to provide them with many opportunities to read quality literature while at the same time teaching them strategies and skills that will help them be successful on the End-Of-Grade tests. Currently, my school does not have a basal reader. We do have good book choices from our media center and our classroom library. However, we do not have multiple copies of the same titles. I would like to have my students read and interact with books that they can read together in Literature Circles or as a whole class. I would like to provide my students with titles such as: Because of Winn-Dixie, The Boxcar Children, Bunnicula, The Chocolate Touch, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Harriet the Spy, How to Eat Fried Worms, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, Muggie Maggie, Pippi Longstocking, Ramona Quimby,Age 8, Sarah Plain and Tall, Shiloh, Stone Fox, Stuart Little, There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom, The Whipping Boy, Encyclopedia Brown Boy Detective, and The Wish-Giver. All of these titles are available through a reading series that helps make learning meaningful through the practice and application of skills as they read popular children's literature.
