This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach instrumental music in five different elementary schools. Usually my classes are held in each school's multi-purpose room, but occasionally we have to move to whatever space is available. All of my teaching tools need to be portable.
Most of my students are English Learners living below the poverty line who receive free meals through the district.
If it weren't for the school district providing free rental of musical instruments, my students wouldn't be able to participate in instrumental music classes.
My Project
I would like to use the portable projector with both the document camera I received through a grant last year as well as using it with a tablet to help my students improve their note reading skills. We need a projector of our own since trying to arrange the use of a projector at each of the five schools every time I arrive can be complicated and time consuming.
Being able to project my students' music so that they all can see it at one time will really help to increase their note reading skills.
It will be invaluable for both my beginning students as well as my more experienced students. Connecting the tablet to the projector will also allow us to use note reading apps to help make learning to read music more fun.
