My Students

My first grade students desire to be in school every day. Their goal throughout the year is to prepare for second grade. They are familiar with using a tablet. I teach at a Title I school.

My students come from a small, rural community, and thoroughly enjoy learning about the world through literature, science, and social studies.

They are intrigued to learn of the similarities and differences of their lives to the lives of others. They also enjoy responding to text through writing and illustrating about what they've learned.

My Project

I would use the tablet to differentiate instruction through podcasts, apps, and publishing tools. Having an iPad, keyboard, and printer will open up the world to their wondering and creative minds. They soak up information during lessons and welcome additional learning tools.

My students are eager, inquisitive learners.

Having these tools in the classroom would give them an unlimited amount of resources. My students are learning the writing process in response to text. These tools would help them to create and publish projects according to their ability and interests.

Besides writing biographies and autobiographies, I would like to use these tools to create projects (printed text, digital stories, movies) to document the history and memories of our local elders.
