This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students at my school come from a diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds and places within (and outside) the United States, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique. My students are special because they bring me so much joy on a day to day bases. They make me laugh and they are always eager and willing to learn. For example, we were practicing an M&M Math activity and I had one student that ate all his data(M&M) and he told me "I am so sorry", but I couldn't resist! But he did complete his chart! Got to love them!
My Project
It is important for our students to become active listeners at a young age. With such a diverse classroom, this allows my students to understand the English language and build on vocabulary. Hearing a book read on CD can help children focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading. These materials can reinforce classroom instruction in a low-stress environment. For example, I can leave a recording of a book that I have read aloud so that my students can hear it again and record what they have learned or what they didn't understand. These materials can be used not only for Reading but Math, Science, and even Social Studies.
