Popping up Writing Skills

My students need a popcorn maker, clipboards, pencil sharpener and journals to help promote critical thinking and writing. The popcorn will help increase engagement while also feeding my students in an inexpensive way.

My Students

My sophomore-junior Criminal Justice and Psychology and Humanities class is unique in that my students regularly experience a blend of their core subject matter with the power of creativity, inquiry, and self-expression. Our small learning community is active and engaged and in need of some help!

While our school is a small arts and sciences academy (about 500 9th through 12th graders), we are a public school who focuses on developing well-rounded young people who are strong in both their core academic studies as well as the arts.

Approximately 71% of our students receive free or reduced rate lunch, and many young people who graduate from our school are the first in their families to go to college. Since we reformed our old public high school and opened our doors 8 years ago, we have acquired tremendous resources. Most of our success is due to our dedicated staff who is always puts positive relationships with students first, followed by integrating core content with creativity and real world problem-solving. Our students are bright, creative, and incredibly grateful for authentic experiences and materials when available.

My Project

My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in reading. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. My students have struggled to find a love of writing and this year students will be given journals and writing supplies to help promote their love of writing. Students will be able to write as well as eat popcorn in our classroom. Since many of my students come in hungry this is a quick and inexpensive way to boost engagement and keep students focused.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

The popcorn machine will help boost engagement and offer my students a snack as we discuss our writing during Popcorn days. Most of my students arrive at school hungry and continue to not eat through out the day. The journals both the composition books and scribbles that matter journal will help give students their own personal place to practice mastering their craft of writing. The pencils and pencil Sharpener will help to ensure that students are always arriving to class with the necessary supplies. Lastly, the clipboards will help students who have trouble sitting in a traditional seat be able to continue writing and working on their writing. This will also allow me to get my students up and moving. Students will be using these supplies to help promote a love of writing.
