Popping Up Reading: Pop-Up Books for 5th Grade Scholars
My students need a new and exciting reading experience: Pop-Up Books! We will read, study and create them--an amazing combination of literature and art.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Solis's classroom raised $594

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have come from many different parts of the world including Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and the United States. They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts. We work hard every day as scholars, artists, critical thinkers, and friends.
At our school, 96% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 92% of the students are students of color.
The majority of my students are learning English as a second or third language. These students have the capacity to achieve greatness.
My Project
In our classroom we cherish books. We read chapter books, graphic novels, big coffee-table sized fact books and beautiful picture books. I am requesting examples of a book type that is not in our library yet, but is an amazing form of art and literacy: pop-up books.
Be a part of a project that will inspire and empower us to create something new.
Because of their craft and detail, pop-up books are usually out of the realm of what teachers consider appropriate for a classroom library--and certainly, outside of my teacher budget. Nevertheless, I think that having access to this unique combination of literature and art will inspire my students. Students will be able to explore the world around them through this popular form of literature. Additionally, literature inspires us to express ourselves to others around us. So many of my students have an insatiable need to create and build; one student in particular is continually cutting up and gluing together paper--this project will feed a need that they have to be creative. The how-to books on making pop-ups will give us the ability to create our own to share.
Art and reading go hand in hand when pop-up books are at the center. Inspire us to read and create. Thank you for considering our project.
