My Project
Parents are their children's first teachers and should continue in that role even when children formally enroll in their local school. Unfortunately, many parents feel uncomfortable or left out of their children's education especially our large population of English Language Leaners and immigrants because so much of it takes place outside the home.
Our primary goal with our family night project is to build a bridge between home and school.
We want our students and their families to come to our special event and learn together how to positively impact learning for themselves and as parent-teachers at home. By using many types of games, including online activities, parents will learn new strategies and skills to support their children in academic endeavors no matter what language they speak ( English, Spanish and Russian) . We will supply each family member with a bag of popcorn and snow cone as they learn math skills to take home. Which is why we need a popcorn machine and supplies to go with it like popcorn and bags.
Finally, engaging families in helping their child with take-home activities they can do as part of their learning. I would love the learning to continue at home and give families some ideas of how they can help their child in a fun way and in their foreign language. Teachers will be on hand to demonstrate strategies, explain content standards, answer questions, and offer support to both students and their parents. New lines of communication will be opened and hopefully, parents will become more invested in their children's schooling, in a low stress, fun-filled environment. They will be able to practice working in groups, sharing, taking turns, and good sportsmanship, while having positive interactions with their family with Math.
