Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

"Every one is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its entire life believing that it is stupid."--Albert Einstein. This quote is applicable to my special need students who in many respects are different from their general education peers.

They are different in their ways of learning, their areas of interest, their rate of understanding, among many others.

I teach a 2nd-5th grade SDC class of students with Autism; in a school where close to 80% of the students are on free/reduced price lunch. As part of their disability, it is often difficult for my students to get interested or engaged in learning. It is equally difficult to convince some of these students that they are not ‘stupid.’ Some of them have come to believe that they are not smart, and thus have no need for Science, Math, or even Reading!

My Project

For me teaching is a privilege! To help my students recognize their brilliance is a responsibility. I want you to help me do this. I want you to help me empower my students to have the belief that they are not only smart but capable of doing the same task as their general education peers with some support. I want to introduce BrainPOP learning to my students to help them get fully engaged in their learning. BrainPOP engages students through animated movies, learning games, interactive quizzes, and primary source activities. It helps to engage students and keep them focused on lessons; as a result students learn while being entertained. The fun and interactive nature of the Brain Pop videos will help my students to understand and pay closer attention to lessons, especially the Math and Science lessons. Having BrainPoP in my classroom will help me to better explain and teach some topics that may be a little difficult for my students to understand.

This material will help to expand my students' learning and will give my students a fun approach to learning all subjects.

Thank you in advance for supporting my project. I believe that with your support, my students will get a subscription of BrainPoP, which will no doubt help to improve my classroom by helping to keep my students interested and on task in their learning.
