My students need books on their independent level in their hands and at home to read. I Survived Series and Diary of a Wimpy Kid are really high interest books written with children as readers in mind. Having a variety of books on different levels will allow each of them to select a few and take home to improve their reading fluency and ignite a passion for reading.
With these chosen books and favorites, I would love to host a parent night where the parents and students "Pop In To Read.” Each child will leave with a few books and a bag of popcorn.
I will have doorprize and drawings to promote parent participation. I think this would be a great opportunity for parents, students, and teachers to promote positive reading experiences for children.
