This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Keeping the learning rigorous while keeping the discipline on the straight and narrow is necessary to have a classroom that has a strong teaching and learning environment. Rigor and discipline can sometimes lead to a less than enthusiastic classroom. If effort to keep the mood bright and cheery there is a need for rewards. In our classroom, there have been many, many days where my students needed a little encouragement, a little pick me up, and a nice snack. This year we began using popcorn for a snack, an incentive all rolled into one. This has been such a fun morale booster for my students. It makes ours days "pop" with excitement for learning (smashing all those hunger pangs). Our current popcorn popping machine is very small, and only allows us to make a minimal amount of popcorn per batch. This makes popcorn days tedious, and more labor intensive.

We are looking forward to having a popcorn popping machine that will allow us to pop one batch and be done.

This would allow us to pop the popcorn, and quickly return to the teaching and learning.

The goal of this project is to improve our classroom environment by adding incentives to our day. We want to make sure our days are more than just discipline and rigor. We want to raise the vibration of our classroom climate- while caring for our earth's climate. One of the things I love about using a popcorn popper is the amount of trash and waste we save by not having individual snacks and multiple wrappers. This is a huge trash saving option in our class, and that is always good for the climate and environment. Since we've started using a popcorn popper, we have way less trash to throw out everyday.
