This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
When you enter our classroom, you will see a room of resilient children who are trying their best to be kind and loving. The reading levels in our classroom range from kindergarten to 4th grade. Some of my students have had wonderful school experiences, while others have struggled. However, when they enter our classroom we work hard to put our previous struggles aside and learn.
These students come to school to learn and grow; we work hard to instill a drive to go far in life.
My student body consists of children with English as their second language, struggling readers, students with multiple learning styles, students with learning disabilities, and gifted children. The state provides our entire student base with free breakfast and lunch to ensure our students have the nutrition and energy to learn. We attend a Title I school, meaning that a majority of my students come from low socioeconomic situations. This puts my students already at a disadvantage compared to their counterparts at other schools in our district. We work hard to bridge the gap in their education because we all know education is what can change a life.
My Project
As a Title I school teacher, we are seeing students hit their proverbial ceiling. We are a K-8 Charter School. It has come to our attention that when our students leave us they are falling through the cracks. They feel life does not have as much to offer as we offered them here at our school. They are getting lost in the crowd.
We want to give them a sense of empowerment over their future self, today, right here and right now!
Students need to have an understanding of financial literacy in order to lead a successful life.
We will design a club that is student run and they will build their business model and do research. This project will revolve around the children joining the TSMS Financial Literacy Association. We will begin by having the students design a business plan and come up with a budget to be able to run the cotton candy machine on the money it brings in while making a profit. The proceeds will go right back into their educational endeavors, to get needed supplies for our under funded Title I classrooms to ensure their success at our school! The kids will hopefully see that if they hang in there and finish school there are things that this world has to offer them.
They can start a small business today and a big business tomorrow. This idea is to foster an eye on the prize. No matter how hard life gets we need to forge on and work toward this goal that we set here today when we started achieving this goal. This is a working model we want to establish today and see them carry it whole heartily into their future.
