The students I serve are intelligent, highly capable, and talented young ladies and gentlemen, who are striving to be successful - not only academically, but in all facets of life.
As part of a diverse population of bright, gifted, and artistic students in Atlanta Public Schools, the students for which I provide interventions are some of the most clever and insightful.
However, these students often feel inferior to their peers, because they sometimes require more support to achieve proficiency.
These students can and will excel beyond any standard set for them, when provided with access to the resources to differentiate, accommodate, and address their varied academic, social, and emotional needs.
My Project
As the intervention specialist at a high school, I am amazed genuinely at the number of students who enter my office for assistance with POP-ing (Planning, Organizing and Prioritizing) their academics and extracurricular activities. The materials requested – agendas, dividers, and To Do folders – will aide students in the development and promote the continued use of POP-ing skills. The agendas will help with PLANNING of assignments and activities, creating a clear picture of when tasks should be completed. The dividers will help with ORGANIZING and sorting materials according to subject area and content. The To Do Folders will help with PRIORITIZING, as students will place items in this folder that require immediate attention and action.
To successfully prepare students to GROW, LEAD and TRANSFORM, POP-ing skills are essential.
It is my belief that for the vision of Atlanta Public Schools to manifest, POP-ing must be at the foundation every endeavor. POP-ing is necessary to have engaged student who love to learn. POP-ing is vital to the development of knowledgeable and relatable educators who engage and inspire students to achieve at high levels. POP-ing is essential to garnering parental/family involvement in students’ education, the schools, and the system as a whole. POP-ing is crucial to establishing meaningful communication with stakeholders in the community who have confidence the system can and will fulfill its mission - providing a caring culture of trust and collaboration, where every student will graduate ready for college and career, which will require students to possess POP-ing skills.
