FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Kaiser's classroom raised $561

It is my desire to implement a P.O.N.D. program for the approximately 200 students that live and go to our school in downtown Fayetteville, NC. These children need purposeful, outdoor experiences that allow them to discover nature.
As the science and technology teacher, I have the opportunity to work with every child in our schoolwide Title I program from kindergarten through grade 5. These children often do not spend time exploring nature out of doors. They lack the experiences that come from walking through the forest and splashing in a stream.
I want to bring these children closer to nature by developing a very hands on approach to science. One of the more innovative concepts I have had is to create a classroom pond. The pond could be placed indoors or outdoors, thereby allowing us to bring the out of doors into our classroom for closer study.
Initially, the pond would serve as a habitat for snails and a variety of freshwater fish, as well as plant life such as the water lily. Students will be held responsible for maintaining and exploring this ecosystem. Ultimately, we will be able to examine life cycles, pH levels, growth of algae, impact of temperature, and much more.
This is one of many P.O.N.D. projects that I have in mind for our students. Please consider helping me to promote purposeful, outdoor, nature, discovery among these students in need by supplying us with the classroom pond, a skimming net, and pond snails. With your support I know that we will inspire some of the struggling youth at our school to become more engaged in the study of science.
