My Students

In the Advanced Placement Comparative Government classes I teach, students are deeply passionate about international politics, current events in the U.S. and abroad, and connecting with the people living in the countries we study.

I teach in an urban performing arts high school - my students are deeply invested in creating positive political change and transforming our world.

They are driven, focused, incredibly curious young adults striving to know as much as possible about the countries and governments we study. They care about the impacts of government policy at home and around the globe. They truly want to change our world.

In order to do so, they need teaching technology which reliably links them to international media and which strengthens distance learning supports such as classroom podcasts and videos.

My Project

Access to up-to-date, reliable technology stands out as one of the biggest challenges my students and I experience when learning inside and outside our classroom.

Powerful tech drives political engagement, deepens class discussion, and creates virtual communities transcending national borders and boundaries.

Teaching remotely, I used my own personal tech tools at home to connect my Comparative Government and Politics students with political changes around the world. Interviews with members of the British Parliament, nightly news from Russia, or lectures from experts on the Iranian government streamed into our Zoom lessons and lectures. It was very exciting.

But with our return to the classroom, we leave many of these powerful tools behind.

This project will empower my students and I to work together to infuse our in-person lessons with the best aspects of remote learning: immediate access to global news media, creating class podcasts, hosting international Zoom calls, and planning innovative presentations and projects.
