Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a performing arts teacher in a low-income district in Louisiana. Even though my students have many factors that make learning a challenge, they come to school each day ready and motivated to learn!

The goal I set for my Pre-K - 5th-grade students is to not only do exceptional work academically but to also exceed all my expectations artistically as well.

"Before a child talks they sing. Before they write they draw. As soon as they stand, they dance. Art is fundamental to human expression" - Phylicia Rashad

My students are eager, enthusiastic, and passionate about learning through the arts and love implementing it into their everyday curriculum. It makes their learning more fulfilling and engaging. My school provides a variety of supplies the students need to be successful academically, but materials that are needed for the arts are sometimes due to district budget cuts. I truly believe that the implementation of the arts is not only needed but is vital when teaching the whole child. Your neighborhood, ethnicity, and economic background may differ, but as a teacher with passion, I strive to provide my students with any advantage I can to help them achieve more.

My Project

In my classroom, technology has been extremely helpful in pushing my students to the next level of performing arts. Many of my integrated arts lessons require visuals through the use of a projector, computer, or videos. I try to provide the best educational experiences possible in each and every lesson I teach. To continue to strive towards this expectation, a presenter remote and lifting lap desk would aid me with teaching in-person and virtual students at the same time.

If you choose to fund this project, you will not only help to increase student engagement, but you will also give my virtual students engagement opportunities that they have lacked due to learning remotely.

Having a presenter remote and mobile lap desk while teaching will give me the flexibility of moving around my class to monitor in-class student learning while continuing to provide online students with the same level of presented instruction. With a presenter tool, I can move through projected slides, presentations or show videos all at the click of a button in my hand. It will not matter if I am teaching in-person or virtual learner, all my students will benefit from this form of technology being used during each and every lesson. My students will be eager to participate because they are academically and artistically stimulated through the use of technology. A memory card will help with storing class data to upload for students for practice or review.
