My Project

My students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions!

"Our school is a Magnet School dedicated to the Arts and Humanities.

We use big ideas in the Arts and integrate them into language arts, reading, and math curriculum.".

Our school is located in Idaho and is one of 11 elementary schools. Students participate in a variety of arts-related experiences throughout the year, incorporating them into core subject areas.

Being a magnet school in the Arts and Humanities, our school has incorporated an Arts and Humanities block in our day. Throughout the year, all 315 students rotate to each Arts and Humanities (A & H) block and are exposed to different learnings, pottery, music, world language, etc.

Years ago, I discovered my passion for photography and I have since brought this to Sorensen Magnet School and exposed the students to a different form of visual arts. The kids love it and it is easy for all of them to find themselves in a photo.

A few years back, I wrote a grant and received 12 cameras for my students to use. However, it has become difficult and expensive to print the pictures for all 315 students. I would use these printers for each student to print their favorite picture to display at school. Next year, I would also like to incorporate some writing with their picture in the format of a poem.

These photographs and poems would then be displayed in the hallway at Sorensen for families and the community to view.
