My Project

I teach at an incredible little school on the outskirts of Las Vegas. I get the privilege of teaching in the library where I get the opportunity to teach all the kids that are in our school.

I want to create a creative, immersive project that invites elementary school students to explore the world of poetry through the charming and cultural lens of a French-style poetry cafe.

Over several weeks, students will write original poems, learn about various poetic forms and cafe culture, and culminate their experience by performing their work in a classroom transformed into a cozy cafe. The supplies I'm requesting are new poetry books so that students can get a sense of various forms of poetry. As well, I am requesting berets for students to use as they share their poetry with parents and peers. I would also like some backdrops to transform our class to a French poetry cafe.
