This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In order to practice for the speaking section of the WIDA access test, my English Language Development students will be engaging an a Slam Poetry project. To be great speakers and writers they first need to be great readers.

Punching the Air is not only an excellent example of poetry but it is also an example how poetry can be used to make change, and cultivate powerful voices, thus making it the perfect anchor text for this project.

This beautiful novel reflects so much of the lives of my students providing opportunities to tap into funds of knowledge to achieve on this standardized exam that we have coming up.
