This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Next year I will be moving from Special Education to CoOperative teaching classes. My students will be a mix of students with and without disabilities. I have found that adding something all students can relate to, such as music, coffee, and poetry, helps bridge the learning gap. A Poetry Cafe is a project based lesson in which students learn about poetry, write their own poetry and recite that poety in class. This will be modeled and used after reading "Gabi, a Girl in Pieces". The Coffee makers are a fun way to make the environment feel more like the poetry cafe in the book.
The Poetry Cafe, poetry books to add to our collection, and coffee makers will help my students express themselves out loud!
Poetry lifts the spirits and helps with Social-Emotional Learning. I've also included a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to help me create lessons surrounding the poems that students will choose. Often students choose poetry themes that are new in class, and having the resources of Teachers Pay Teachers will help me find lesson plans to encourage the new learn poems.
