Poetry Books To Inspire Our Library Readers

My students need poetry books to read and enjoy in our school library.

My Students

Do you remember how much you enjoyed reading and hearing poetry when you were a child? Our students love hearing, reading and writing their own poetry. I would love for them to have even greater access to even more poetry, especially during National Poetry Month. Our poetry collection needs help!

Our students are thoughtful and creative.

They have an insatiable level of curiosity. They like to express themselves and love to hear poetry. They enjoy visiting our poetry section in our library. We had fun this year crafting and sharing our original poems during April this year.

My Project

During March, April and May our school library's poetry collection gets used so much, because of National Poetry Month and also because so many of our teachers teach poetry units during that time of year. I love seeing our young learners enthusiastic about poetry. One of the most gratifying parts of my job is that I assist our library students to find great poetry books to read and then I get to see them reading their poetry books together as reading buddies. Our students look so filled with the joy of learning when the find the perfect poem to read. Their teachers also request poetry books too. Sadly, we just don't have enough poetry books to keep up with our learning community's needs during that time of year. Some students leave the poetry section unsatisfied because so many of the books have just been checked out. I would love to have a richer collection of poetry books for all of our learners to select from all year long.

This poetry request is so important because more poetry books in our school library will allow our young learners to read more.

They will happily gobble up the poetry books. With these new poems, I hope to generate a love of learning. These books will assist our kids with their literacy skills and will also help them to associate good feelings with reading. After reading these poetry books, they will want to read more and more and more!
