My third graders are dedicated learners. Our school just opened last year, and we have worked hard to create a tight-knit school community where students feel safe and welcome. They come to school every day with a smile on their face ready to learn. We have so many questions and wondering about the way the world work. We love to dive into a good book. We also love to research new authors and discover new series. This year alone we have looked at the authors Jerry Spinelli, Roland Dahl, Shel Silverstien, JK Rowling, and Kate DiCamielo. We need help to continue our author study and increase our mentor texts.
My Project
April is National Poetry Month, a time to celebrate poets and their craft. Through this literary work, students are given an opportunity to read about feelings, interpret words, and evoke emotions. This specific type of literature is so fun and inviting to children that they can learn so much from the examples of skilled poets.
In my third grade classroom we have a strong love for poetry.
Earlier this school year we did an authors study on Shel Silverstien. My students were so engaged and excited to be studying his poems that I decided to look at other authors and forms of poetry this month.
We are in need of several high quality poetry texts from a variety of different authors to assist us on this unit. We also are in need of a stand to display our poetry books so that students can easily access the poem books.
