Poems and Diversity, Oh My!

My Students

My students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. We live near a large military base in a semi-urban area. Some of my students are military-connected and have parents that are deployed or have been deployed. There are some parks but none within walking distance for my students.

My little wise owls are nine and ten-years olds.

They are at an age where they are very curious about the world around them. They ooh and aah when they read and see about places around the world.

My students love to read non-fiction books, and I do too!

My Project

I have chosen a book written in a poem format and other books in which my students can see themselves.

The books that I've chosen to add to the classroom library offer a rich variety of content and diversity for children of all races and ethnicities to enjoy.

Books open the doors to worlds not thought about, but these books will add diversity and wonder as children read each one.

They open the possibility to dream more and to dream big and that no matter what, your dreams and you matter.

More than anything I want to offer diversity and variety in reading materials so that my students are exposed to more about the world around them.
