My students need 2 couches, 6 beanbag seats, and 2 storage benches for our outside Pod area. This seating will allow students to comfortably spend time in the Pod reading, working on activities, and receiving daily tutorials/interventions.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are our family. We sit and talk about our lives, we laugh and we learn from each other. We work at a Title I school with some of the most amazing kids. Our classrooms are made of diverse groups of children who push to work hard and learn as much as they can each and everyday.
Though many of them come from economically disadvantaged homes and are going through more than you or I could ever imagine, (especially after Hurricane Harvey in which many of our families were affected) they are strong, they continue to have a positive attitude and they give everything they can to increase their knowledge each and everyday.
My Project
Recently we had to throw away some of the furniture in our Pod. We would like to replace the furniture that was being used with seating that can be easily cleaned, is durable, and provides the students with flexible seating choices during independent reading/tutorials.
The couches, bean bags, and storage benches will mostly be utilized during independent and small group sessions.
As of right now students have to lay or sit on the carpet which is uncomfortable.
We believe by having more seating options in the Pod it will get the students excited for independent reading and will allow them to be comfortable and focused during small groups. The benches will not only provide a place to sit, but will be used to store books and materials needed resulting in less disruptions and easy transitions.
