Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

To be a seven-year old, living in a tiny apartment with many extended family members can be a frustrating experience. This is the life of my 20 students in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Their lives are in such disarray and disorganization; a little order in their classroom life can be a way to simplify things. A small addition of seat sacks, washable cloth bags that attach to the backs of their chairs would be a noticeable improvement over the old, worn Ziploc bags currently used in their Readers' Workshop. Reading is becoming an important opportunity for our students to see beyond their limited realm. Each day, my students compete with their peer second grade classes to see which class can read for the longest amount of time independently. So far, we are in the lead; however, the other classes are closing in on us. Can you please help make this proposal a reality? Thank you for taking the time to hear our story.
