This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students in my Crafts and Ceramics I and II classes come from a low socioeconomic and underprivileged environment. The majority of my classes are made up of tenth to twelfth grade, male and female students of African American and Hispanic descent. Living in the city environment that surrounds them, students channel all of their demographics into the art they create in my classes.
My students come to school each day knowing they get a chance to relieve the stresses and triumphs they are faced within their home lives.
Even before entering my classroom, students are eager, excited, and ready to get creative! Many come during their lunch to continue working on projects and some even stay after school!
My Project
Over the past few years of teaching, the number of ESL students I receive increases every year. Many attend my classes and do not speak any English. This makes it very difficult to understand the content I am teaching.
Having a pocket translator will allow for these students to hear what I am saying in real time but in the native language they can understand.
This will ultimately allow for my ESL students to comprehend the lesson(s) being taught and not feel puzzled or lost at the end of each class.
