Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade in a wonderful school in Charlotte, North Carolina. We are a low income school, yet we have dedicated teachers. We have become a 'School of Distinction' for the second year in a row. One thing I have always wanted but never had is a chart stand. A chart stand has many purposes. On chart paper, I can write poems, directions for a project, or brainstorm things with my students. I can hang the chart paper from the chart stand and not worry about it being erased from the board. I am also asking for pocket charts that can be used with the chart stand. Pocket charts are vinyl and plastic and allow students to insert cards into a plastic pocket. The Hundreds Board pocket chart is a wonderful tool. Students can order numbers from 1-100. They can see the patterns that develop in the columns. The pattern markers are colored see-through pieces that highlight a number and will help students count by 2's, 5's, and 10's. The Money Chart has smaller pockets and allows students to match play money with amounts of money on cards. Also, students can match 5 pennies with 1 nickel.
