My Students

Students at this school are hard working learners. They may come from homes that are struggling. 73% of them are on free or reduced lunch, but that doesn’t stop them from wanting an education. The students are multiracial,including 40% white, 31% Hispanic, 23% Black, 3% Asian, and 3% combination of races. This creates an environment of acceptance and tolerance for all. My challenge is to level the playing field, so that students with less opportunities are able to compete academically with those who have more opportunities.

Creating learning experiences for these students is the best part of my job; the joy on their faces as they are discovering something new and integrating knowledge into their “personal toolkits” is priceless.

In my learning environment, I endeavor to set them up to win in an environment that is inviting and comfortable. Sometimes that means school supplies, mending clothing, a bandaid, or a kind word. I believe this will not only help the students focus, but will also produce a higher level of work from the student. Teaching these young learners is a privilege.

My Project

Children in pre-kindergarden are digital natives. They know and love learning electronically. However, most of their experience, before they come to school, are with a parent's phone that has a tough case. They have not yet learned how to handle an expensive tablet in a way that has them be safe with the tablet remaining undamaged.

My students need cases that will allow them to fully interact with the tablets for online learning, without the tablets getting damaged and the children being exposed to broken glass.

There are incredible learning opportunities available on the internet for young children. They can use apps to learn letters, sounds, money, and colors. Music can play the months of the year and the days of the week. We have the opportunity to use these tablets, but only if we are able to put kid friendly cases on them. Please help us access this resource by helping us with cases.
