Our school is a free, charter school in Youngstown, Ohio serves students in grades K-8. We provide rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. Located in an inner-city neighborhood, a majority of students are low-income and high poverty. All students receive free breakfasts and free lunches. Despite this, they are motivated to learn.
Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school, in college, and in life.
We provide academic opportunities many other schools do not offer, such as the Concept Young Scholars Program, the opportunity to take Spanish or Turkish in middle school -- and after school programs such as robotics, art club, tutoring, basketball, cheerleading, and choir.
Technology plays an important part in their education. My students are lucky to have individual Chromebooks in the classroom. Headphones, however, have been a challenge. There are over 60 students using the room throughout the day, sharing headphones that are already 5 years old. Our current headphones are slowly breaking.
I would like to have new headphones so my students can celebrate the lunar New Year with an online math project and hear their online lessons during our Math Lab portion of the day. My students work on programs such as iREADY, Zearn and Khan Academy, which are proven to help increase test scores. Some students, however, have to go without headphones, which means they are not listening to their video lessons and are missing key information.
Please help provide new headphones for each student and storage to help protect those new headphones so that my students have what they need to be successful.
