My Students

"But most of all, you help me with me," Those were the words a student wrote to me at the end of last year. Those words were a reminder that as a teacher, I do so much more than teach students English, math, science and social studies.

I currently teach in a Title I School.

Most of my students are faced with problems in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face, I am there to provide them with stability, acceptance and resources that will help not only teach them in the present but hopefully, will help build a foundation that will help support their future learning.

My students are full of life, energy and curiosity. From the minute they walk into the room, my kids are ready to go. They love to move and to be actively engaged in the learning process. I try my best to provide them with learning experiences that provide them with movement, as well as fun ways to remember the content I am teaching. I believe that a classroom should be fun and engaging, not just a place where children sit behind a desk for hours.

My Project

My students have been blessed with one-to-one technology. They each have an iPad assigned to them to utilize programs that the district has purchased. These programs provide individualized instruction that meet them where they are. Additionally, I allow my students to have access to websites, games, apps, and videos to help my students with their goals and mastery of skills.

Using all of these types of technology in the classroom require students to wear headphones in order to keep the classroom noise out and the focus to be on the content being presented through the digital means.

With our Title I Funding, our school was able to buy each student a pair of ear buds. However, with a limited budget they were not able to buy the best quality ear buds/headphones. Most of my students can't fit the ear buds into their little ears, they tangle really easy, and most have quit working. My students desperately need headphones for them to be able to properly access the content I am providing them with and to be successful.
