I teach an amazing group of students in Kansas City that I love so much, I looped with them from 4th grade to 5th! That means we are a strong community of personalities that are comfortable making mistakes, getting messy, questioning the world around us and soaking in new information. These truly are some amazing minds with a wide variety of interests and passions.
My students are fiercely compassionate about the fairness and condition of our world and each other.
I see them lean on each other in times of stress or high emotion and I have seen them make sacrifices for the benefit of their classmates time and time again.
My Project
My students are in need of new, quality headphones to assist their technology productivity. We did well for over a year with the dollar store set we had, but now the last pair of headphones has expired. This means that my students’ families are responsible for replacing and keeping up with their students headphone needs which, at this point in the year, is not always possible to produce more school supplies for students.
Dependable headphones will allow my students to continue to dive head first into their passion projects during STEAM time, coming up with something they wish to learn about or teach and share with the world.
Being of the YouTube generation, much of their self directed learning comes from educational videos that help them process the information in a format that appeals to them. Quality headphones will improve focus on their project and other research opportunities in various subjects because they will not have the background distractions of other people’s audio interrupting their own learning.
Quality headphones are also essential to testing! Many of the tests my students take over the course of the year give directions and other pertinent information via audio, with no visual text to read. This is not accurately heard when listening on low in a classroom full of other test takers. Headphones for the entire class will ensure each student is on an even playing field when it comes to audio quality and accuracy.
