Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Math is fun and exciting to learn if students can put their hands on materials that help them understand the concepts being presented. During the year and a half online, my students had to learn math through a computer screen. This made it difficult for them to understand the ever-deepening concepts of 8th-grade math.

Students who are given manipulatives to help them explore math concepts are more engaged and develop a deeper understanding of what they are learning.

Individual whiteboards with preprinted coordinate axes will be instrumental in helping my students understand transformations and distances between points. Manipulatives that allow students to explore whether three side lengths make a right triangle help a student understand the Pythagorean Theorem more deeply. Algebra tiles help students understand the process of solving equations. A teacher set of magnetic algebra tiles for the whiteboard will complement the algebra tiles each student uses to explore this concept. Patty paper (yes, the paper you find in between pre-pressed hamburgers in the grocery store) makes great individualized tracing papers to help students see how shapes rotate or reflect on the coordinate plane. Plain whiteboards and mechanical pencils are classroom staples that allow students to repeatedly practice their developing skills

I am passionate about students not just learning math but also being engaged and enjoying the learning process. Yes, they will use what they are learning as they move on from middle school to high school! Help me help them!
