Our school is an academically successful, rural high school that is filled to the brim with about 900 wonderful students. We serve our military community. Our students are smart, athletic, and driven to succeed.
In the state's ranking system, our high-performing high school has been ranked as a top ten public high school in NC for eleven consecutive years.
We are proud of our success in the classroom.
On September 13, 2018, our community was hit hard by Hurricane Florence. Again, in 2019, we were hit by Hurricane Dorian. Although the hurricanes might have re-shaped us, they won't define us. Even though the storms seem so long ago, some of us are still in recovery mode. We were "CarteretStrong" then and my students remain that way now: strong, resilient, and flexible.
And now, we are dealing with a pandemic and distance learning.
My Project
Plop, Plop Fizz, Fizz! Oh, what a relief it is... to have simple Science supplies and a few snacks. With these effervescent tablets, I will teach the ninth grade entry-level freshmen students about chemical reactions.
The students will use several variables to test which of them cause a faster chemical reaction.
Will a half tablet dissolve as fast as a whole one? Will a crushed tablet dissolve as fast as a pulverized one? How does the temperature of the water or the amount of water affect the reaction? All of these questions can be answered in this simple experiment using the tablets. We will use the plastic beakers that are requested in the project to conduct the experiments. I have ordered plastic ones so that I can eliminate breakage as I will have to send some of the labware home with our virtual students.
Also, since we are eating lunch in our room, I want to replenish the supply of snacks that I offer those kids who need a little more to eat or those that have forgotten their lunch.
