My students need to be able to hear me on the days when my voice is giving out with a Voice Amplifier and Grammar games for a fun way to learn parts of speech and grammar.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teaching isn't very effective when students can't hear you. This voice amplifier will help me spend more time teaching and less time coughing and rasping. The grammar game is a perfect way to help students learn parts and speech and have fun doing it.
These 7th grade middle school students live in a high poverty, urban area of Northern California.
They attend a Title 1 middle school. The large majority of them are Latino, but there are also a significant number of Pacific Islander, African-American and Asian students. They are not given the same opportunities as students in affluent areas. For example, the only electives at our school are Choir and Instrumental Music. Students don't have the opportunity to take Drama, Computers, Art, Woodshop, or Home Economics electives.
My Project
The Voice Amplifier will simply help students hear me and will mean they will have fewer days where substitutes are teaching them. If the students in the back of the room can't hear me or if I have to call in sick, there is little chance of them learning.
The grammar game will help them to learn a typically dry subject by infusing some fun into it. They are very competitive and love to play games.
Harvard University research states "Teachers often have to re-teach material, restore order and rebuild relationships after absences." True.
Also, standards for substitutes are typically far below those for full-time regular teachers. Please help! Your support will simultaneously save my voice, enable students to hear me clearly, and allow me to miss fewer days of work due to strained vocal chords.
