Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students reside in a very large city. Our school is located in a depressed socioeconomic neighborhood. Our students walk to and from school every day. Many of them experience challenges in their home environments. Our school has worked hard to become a positive learning community. Within my classroom each student experiences success and challenges, accepting help from myself and from each other. My students and I enter the classroom everyday ready to learn. Our embedded use of technology always increases the level of engagement. I want them to be able to better use the technology that we already have.
My Project
We are fortunate to have received grant from Apple to have an iPad for each student three years ago. We have successfully kept the iPads in working condition but we are not as successful with the headphones. Headphones that children enthusiastically bring in from the local stores seem to need to be replaced multiple times per year. And, not every child brings them in. Having a quality set of headphones for each child will dramatically make a difference to my students' learning. With these headphones, all children will be able listen to their story being read to them, without being distracted. They will be able to listen to their individual math lessons! Imagine the possibilities!
