My third grade students are in an extremely low-income area of Oakland, with lots of problems (violence, drugs, etc.) and just don't have the chances that a lot of other kids have. They are wonderful children and really want to learn. The children have been writing a lot this year. They are learning to express their feelings, frustrations, and experiences through stories, poems, and essays. Some of them are very powerful, as these kids have been through a lot. I try to make these writings into books so they can show their parents and feel like they have accomplished something by having their stories "published" and showing them off. Some donors were very generous last year and gave us a printer - we just need ink to keep it going throughout the year! We also have a laminator that was donated and just need some more laminating pouches to continue using it this year. Thank you!
