Please Keep Kids Cooking in Our Life Skills Support Classroom!
Help me give my students these cooking tools like convection ovens, and a pastry display case so that we can learn while providing staff and students in the school with yummy treats!
Hello! I have been a special education teacher for the past 15 years for an urban school district in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am currently finishing my 3rd year as a Life Skills Support Teacher. The students in my classroom have varied abilities. Each student is working towards individual goals that will help them to succeed in life after high school. My students come to school each day with smiles on their faces and are ready to learn.
In my classroom, a variety of hands-on learning strategies are used.
Cooking, cleaning and hygiene are some of the most important things that are taught in our learning space!
My Project
Cooking in my Life Skills Support classroom has been an important part of our classroom since it first opened at my school three years ago. Another culinary program will be moving into my classroom next school year and I will be losing many of the tools that we used to make this learning happen (ovens, prep space etc...) My students have used cooking as a way of fundraising for community trips in the past and we would like this tradition to continue.
By donating to our project, you will help my students with intellectual disabilities continue to cook in the classroom.
We will use use the convection toaster ovens, burners, and other materials requested to make baked goods that we will sell to earn money to go on community based instruction trips throughout our city. Thank you so much for taking the time to view our project!
