My Students

In my class, we do things a bit differently than most.

For starters, my students and I use our hands for communication. Words are not spoken, they are seen. American Sign Language is the primary mode of communication in my classroom. Each of my students is very different, but with one thing in common, they are auditory impaired. I know for some, a world of silence would be hard to imagine. However, what my students lack in listening, they gain in their visual perception of the world. Each lesson that is presented is taught with pictures, colors, touch, and movement, making each one of my kids an amazing visual learner. My students see the world as one big beautiful picture, and I hope to be one of the primary painters for their understanding and love for education.

My Project

Due to the school being overcrowded, my students have to share a classroom with another Deaf Education class. This has introduced a lot of new challenges, the most prevalent is trying to find an organized way to fit a whole classroom of supplies into half a room. My students are all profoundly deaf, which makes them very visual. The visual distraction of a disorganized classroom has put a hitch in our learning. Some of my students are also over stimulated by all of the clutter. I want to put an end to the madness and get everything organized. I am asking for two different sizes of Sterilite containers to help with the mess. The long thing boxes will be the perfect fit for all of our units. I will be able to fit the book, plus the center supplies in one box. The smaller, deeper boxes are for the manipulatives that my students use during math and fine motor time. The Sterilite boxes will be a huge help in managing the clutter and making our classroom more functional and organized.
