My Students

I am truly embarrassed by the number of non-fiction books I have in my classroom library. The ones that I do have are too easy for my fourth graders to read. Last school year I decided to read non-fiction books that connect with the history of African Americans. My students loved the connection!

I have a great group of precocious students.

It makes me sad when I visit other schools. When I look at the school and classroom libraries, I comment about how many books they have. I wish my classroom had a fraction of genres that those schools have. I chose to teach because I believe that even the neediest students deserve a good education. My students love books and are eager to learn. Studies show that students, especially urban students, struggle with non-fiction books. My students love to read and listen to non-fiction books. They are very curious about the world around them. I try hard to provide my students with high-quality non-fiction books, especially those with real photographs.

My Project

I will use these books for reading, writing, and social studies. I believe that with these books my students will learn a lot about their history while enjoying the reading. A donation like this would be one of the best things to happen to the students. These book will inspire them to continue reading nonfiction.

Statistics state that if a child is not reading by fourth grade, there is very little hope that this student will read fluently.

My students love to read and in order to make them well rounded students they need to be exposed to different genres. Please help my students !
