This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students use whiteboards and dry erase markers almost daily in math class. They are not used for "fun" (although the students do enjoy them!), but rather as a genuine learning tool. I present a problem on the board and each child works independently on their own white board. After a few minutes, students then compare work with other students at their table. This allows them to see and correct errors and also witness other strategies for solving the same problem. The boards work wonders for alleviating the math anxiety that so many students carry by allowing them to talk about the work with peers instead of having to stand in front of the whole class or speak in front of the whole class. The white boards also allow me to quickly look over shoulders to see who is on track and who may need a little more assistance.

The pencil pouches are just to help the students stay organized. They have 3 ring binders and being able to keep their scissors, glue sticks, etc right in their binder will likely be a great help!
