Help me give my students new headphones to replace our broken or ineffective headphones.
FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Brodus-Yougha's classroom raised $340

My Students
Our elementary school is located in SE Washington, DC; where 97 percent of all students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and free breakfast; and 25 percent of all students receive special education services. In my general education kindergarten classroom, six of my 15 kindergarten students have Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) addressing their various needs (ie., developmental delays, speech and language impairments, autism, and/or behavior challenges).
Most of these students have academic challenges in either reading and/or mathematics or have behavioral challenges; and would benefit tremendously from new headphones to block out distractions.
It should be noted, however, that all of my students are amazing, full of energy, and enthusiastic about learning! They come to school every day ready to learn something new, and they have shown so much growth and potential for excellence since their very first day of school back in August, which seems so long ago!
My Project
Our kindergarten classroom is a very busy place. During any given day, our students rotate from one learning station to another. However, those students on computers frequently struggle with staying on task because of the excessive noise in our classroom. And, our broken or ineffective headphones are a poor deterrent to the constant noise or disruptions that frequently occur in a busy classroom. We are requesting new headphones to replace our broken or ineffective ones.
40% of my students have Individual Educational Plans (IEPs); and are often easily distracted or unable to focus; and if all of our broken or ineffective headphones could magically be replaced, then we could reduce the distractions, while increasing our time on learning.
My students' greatest joys is completing either Lexia or ST Math on their computers, both interventions, or other educational websites that help support their learning in our classroom. Many of my students are auditory learners; and frequently complain that they cannot HEAR what's going on in these programs because of the broken and/or ineffective headphones!
Kindergarten is the foundation of K-12 learning; and research has shown that our students profit most from a quality learning environment that involves hands-on technology. In this day and age, our kindergarteners must be both prepared and equipped for first grade and beyond. That being the case, your generous donations in the form of new headphones are an investment in our kindergarteners' future.
